Curriculum Overview


Our hands-on course curriculum is meticulously crafted to promote student excitement and engagement in learning. Spark Skill courses are taught by either highly qualified professional instructors, or by university students majoring in the fields they teach. Curriculum is designed by our instruction specialist, Camille McCue, PhD, a recognized STEM expert and Dummies technology author.

 

To ensure a high quality of instruction, the following are employed:

  • A powerful Apple computer for every student
  • Plethora of industry standard 3D printers
  • Professional grade software 
  • Student to teacher ratio of no more than just 8 : 1
  • 5000 square foot facility, the Startup Incubator,
    inspiring creativity and innovation

Think Code

Grades 4-6: June 26-30

Grades 7-9: July 10-14

Students will learn the basics of programming through hands-on activities and drag and drop Scratch coding. Projects include a variety of games, such as mazes and number guessers. This class is recommended for students with little to no experience in programming. 

iMake Apps

Grades 7-9: July 17-21

Some Coding Experience (i.e., Think Code) Recommended

Students learn how to make real, downloadable apps and games for iOS and Android devices using the GameSalad development platform. Projects include remakes of popular games such as Flappy Bird and Galaga. Throughout the course, student-produced apps and games will be downloaded on their personal smartphones.

Cyber Security

Grades 7-9: July 31 - August 4

Math will be used extensively

Our daily lives, economy, and security rely on safe and stable Internet and cell communications. But dangers await.  A hacker next door or a spying foreign nation can breach your security to steal your personal information, money, or intellectual property.  Explore the basics of cryptography, physical threats, phishing, socially engineered Trojans, worms, eavesdropping devices, password cracking and more in CyberSecurity!

3D Animation

Grades 7-9: July 24-28

Learn how to create and animate digital 3D models! Apply special effects, textures, motion and more using industry's Autodesk Maya software.

Utilize Adobe Illustrator to draw amazing digital graphics for use in your own games, apps, presentations, and more! Students will learn through addressing realistic design prompts and challenges.

Drone Development

Grades 9-12: July 31 - August 4

Use advanced software to design and 3D print parts, utilize wholesale motors and electronics, and develop software for your own custom quadcopter drone! Compete against high-end consumer drones such as the Parrot AR.Drone.

Use 3D design software TinkerCAD to develop your 3D creations. Print them with our array of over sixteen professional grade 3D printers. Our 3D Printing classes incorporate a variety of filament types, software settings, and extrusion methods to produce stellar prints. Projects are based on a wide variety of fun ideas, as well as commercial challenges.

 Learn the basics of robotics, compete against your classmates, and more! New Mindstorms EV3 bots are utilized in a 1:1 student:kit ratio for maximum contact time with the technology.

Learn how to mod Minecraft using the Vox-L Game Engine! Create flying sheep, write new server commands, design stunning graphic packs, and so much more. The possibilities to be creative are truly endless in this educational sandbox environment! 

Minecraft Architecture

Grades 4-6: July 24-28

Design buildings, play games, and wire digital Redstone circuits in Minecraft! Utilizes TinkerCAD software to quickly design buildings for Minecraft worlds. Students play in our safe, private Minecraft server.

Minecraft Nations

Grades 4-6; July 31 - August 4

Work as a team to build a realistic city. Develop systems of transit, waterlines, power plants and networks, automated factories, and more in our modified edition of Minecraft! Students play in an altered version of our safe, private Spark Skill server.
